Promoting the rights of girls in India

This study for Plan India is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal of achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls (SDG 5).

Challenge

Plan India – a programme within Plan International – is committed to the cause of children. Plan India’s ‘Because I Am A Girl’ campaign works to create a world that values girls, promotes their rights and ends injustice.

Approach

Kantar Public in India worked with Plan International to assess the impact of the campaign and shape its future direction.

Insight

The findings from the study, which encompassed comprehensive primary research as well as a holistic literature review, were delivered in the ‘State of the Girl Child in India’ annual report. This provides tangible evidence of the inequalities that are still prevalent between girls and boys, and concrete recommendations on ways to tackle gender inequality to ensure that every girl can realise her full potential – including the urgent need to establish rigorous research and evaluation systems for measuring progress on SDG 5.

Impact

The study offers a powerful example of the work Kantar Public leads for clients across the developing world to help empower and positively impact the lives of all women and girls.
